A Canadian fabricator of steel parts for hydropower plants is planning to move its manufacturing operations to Lackawanna (Erie County). Linita Design & Manufacturing Corp. is trying to buy an 80,000 square-foot site on the former Bethlehem Steel complex. Al production will be shifted to the site and as many as 100 jobs, including flux-core welders, plate fitters, engineers and supervisors will be created over the next three years.

The new Hamburg (Erie County) Walmart hired about 200 people in preparation for the operation of its new site that opened October 28th. The retailer will employ 450 associates at the new location.

Delphi Corp., once the largest U.S. auto-parts maker, exited bankruptcy after almost four years in a sale to lenders and former parent company General Motors Co. The company is being renamed Delphi Holdings LLP. Delphi’s Lockport (Niagara County) plant returned to GM, while the technical center remains part of Delphi. The Lockport complex has about 1,700 employees; about 200 of them will stay with Delphi.

CentriLogic, a Toronto-based company that provides outsourced data services, has opened a data center in downtown Buffalo (Erie County). The 23,000-square-foot center is the company’s second location in the United States. The facility is expected to bring 50 to 75 jobs to downtown over the next three years.

Rocco Termini, a Buffalo (Erie County) developer that is currently renovating the former AM&A’s into H@Lofts LLC will receive $400,000 in state grants to rehabilitate the nonresidential portion of the project. That will house debt collection firm P&B Acquisitions, which has 40 employees but plans to add 50 over five years.

General Motors Co. is recalling nearly 60 hourly workers form the temporary layoff list at the Tonawanda (Erie County) plant. The recall involves 58 workers who have been laid off for more than 40 weeks. 163 workers are still off the job because of the sales slump in the U.S. The GM plant has a workforce of 805, including 663 hourly workers and 142 salaried personnel.

Seneca Gaming Corp has begun work on its $8 million expansion of the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino. When completed in the spring of 2010, more than 5,000 square feet of additional space will be available to gamblers at the downtown Buffalo (Erie County) location. The casino will add a handful of jobs to the current workforce of 50.

West Herr Automotive Group officially opened its 15th dealership in Williamsville (Erie County). The location is the second Toyota dealership for the chain, which is the largest automotive retailer in New York. The new store has created 14 jobs, bringing the total to 75 at the dealership.

100 workers at the Ford Motor Company’s Woodlawn (Erie County) Stamping plant were placed on a one week layoff after labor violence at a plant in India forced a one-week shutdown at a Canadian assembly plant. The shortages at the assembly plant in Ontario will be evaluated to determine if the furloughs will be extended.
