Life Technologies is a global biotechnology tools company dedicated to improving the human condition. Life Technologies was created in late 2008 by the combination of two of the largest global biotechnology companies in the world, Invitrogen Corporation and Applied Biosystems, Inc. Life Technologies' roots in Buffalo Niagara on Grand Island can be traced back to the establishment of GIBCO (Grand Island Biological Company) which began with production of cell culture media products developed at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.  The GIBCO brand is today still one of the most recognizable brands in the research tools marketplace. Buffalo Niagara Enterprise recently assisted Invitrogen Corporation with a major infrastructure and capital expansion project of $20.5 million in 2007/08 which resulted in the announcement of 94 new jobs to be added by 2012.  Life Technologies continues to be a major anchor of the Buffalo Niagara life sciences industry and is an important player in the success of this sectors' growth.
