Most people don't know what an important role Western New York has played, and continues to play, in life sciences or just how many great jobs there are in this exciting and growing industry.

Yroswell.org is place that encourages our teenagers and young adults to share what they’re thinking, what they want from Roswell or what they’re feeling. This space was built for the Y generation born between 1981 and 1995. Generation Y is 57 million strong and they are the fastest growing segment of our workforce. Reaching young people while they are identifying their future directions is one of the reasons why Roswell Park Cancer Institute, headquartered in Buffalo, NY, has introduced its campaign to reach Y.
Today’s Millard Fillmore College is recommitted to serving adult nontraditional students. Their new division offers a full complement of credit and noncredit academic programs and opportunities for lifelong learning. They offer certificate programs, specialized workforce development and training opportunities, and lifelong learning programs.

THE REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT OF MEDICAL DEVICES
AND IMPLANTS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The objectives of the Regulatory Environment Of Medical Devices and Implants (REMeDI) certificate program is to provide an expanded Life Sciences work force with knowledge and skills needed to enter or move up in the biomedical products industry. Those who should enroll in REMeDI include scientists, researchers, legal and regulatory professionals, marketing and sales teams, design and packaging experts, writers, and manufacturing teams. They will find that the REMeDI training enables them to make valuable contributions to the success of their companies. Individuals who are interested in beginning a career in the Medical Products industry will also benefit greatly from this targeted program.

Erie Community College is offering a free training in bio-manufacturing, a component of the advanced manufacturing and life sciences industry cluster. Course registrations are now taking place for their Spring 2009 course. Call for a description of the course content and for the jobs available in Western New York for this newly created program. This is a perfect course for those who have a science background or manufacturing experience who desire a new career!
The University at Buffalo School of Management’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences has launched a new workforce development program, the High-Tech Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. The program offers the leaders of early-stage life sciences companies the opportunity to learn from established life sciences entrepreneurs as well as from others who are important to long-term success, such as venture capitalists.The classes include interactive lectures, guest speakers who will share their industry experience, panel discussions and case studies on a wide range of topics, including entrepreneurship challenges, intellectual property, licensing and regulatory issues, sales and marketing and financing.
New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences provides resources, updated research, industry information, and education information. The mission of the CoE is to study the mechanistic processes involved in human disease with the goal of developing diagnostics tools and therapeutic interventions, preventative treatment and other disease management devices and processes to improve the health and well-being of the population. This scientific mission is balanced by our responsibility to act as a facilitator of economic development in Upstate New York via partnerships with government, academia and industry.
