A sampling of reasons "Life Works" in the Buffalo Niagara region.

We know that Buffalo Niagara is a place where life works because we live  and work here. And because other folks who live here tell us, too:

"Being in Western New York is wonderful for my family and me. Of course, for me the weather is always changing, which makes my job challenging and exciting every day. The cost of living compared to other big cities allows us to live comfortably in an excellent school district, and my children are thriving because of this opportunity. No matter where you live, you can get to any of the wonderful WNY events within 20 minutes, so the convenience factor is a huge plus

               -     Aaron Mentkowski, Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, WKBW

"Buffalo Niagara is a region that is rich in the components that make an area a tremendous place to live and work. As a life-long resident, I see new growth here that gives us reason to be not only optimistic, but enthusiastic about what's to come."

              -      Dave Smith, President and Chief Operating Officer, National Fuel Gas Company

"Buffalo is the smallest big city in the country. Somebody always seems to know your family, is willing to help out, and does so with a smile. You never really feel alone or out of luck in Buffalo. And, of course, there is always the wings and the Sabres!"

                -     Rick Cannon,   Sales Representative, Bristol-Myers Squibb

"There are very few metropolitan areas that offer snowsports in the winter as well as beach and waterfront access in the summer.  In addition, the cost of living is substantially lower than most other cities.  Fine dining, exciting sports events, great nightlife, and so much more can be found in Buffalo."

                -   Sam Russo, Senior Auditor, Ernst and Young, LLP

"Buffalo is a great city with a community atmosphere.  It is filled with passionate, diverse individuals who come together in times of need and who are determined to reinvigorate and revitalize this great place."

                -    Kristen Makey, Internal Auditor, M&T Bank

"I just moved to the village of Lewiston in Niagara County. Just two blocks up from the Niagara River. I have world-class fishing right in my backyard. The Lewiston Jazz Festival, Peach Festival and so many other local events to enjoy. Lewiston is quickly becoming the Niagara on the Lake of Western New York."

                -    Keith Radford, News Anchorman, WKBW-TV

"A lot of people in the television news business don't stay in one place for long, but I always find that many who leave the Buffalo area eventually end up trying to come back. Why? It's the great people, great entertainment, great restaurants, great schools, and great sense of community. And, unlike bigger cities, it's all at an affordable price with a lot less inconvenience. Come and see for yourself.  Life is good in Buffalo Niagara!"

                -    Joanna Pasceri, News Anchorwoman, WKBW-TV

"When I tell Buffalonians that I am from Toronto they have a somewhat puzzled look on their face and their first response is what are you doing here?
My response is why wouldn't I want to be here. Buffalo has everything a major city has but without the hassles. Major league sports, broadway theatre, world class philharmonic, great restaurants all in a very manageable, friendly community. What's not to like!
PS: The winter weather gets blown way out of proportion.
"

              -     Steve Blake, Vice President/Partner, CB Richard Ellis-Buffalo

"I lived and worked in NYC for 13 years. Great for the career, but when I married and we decided to raise a family we chose to move to the Buffalo area to raise our family. There is a great quality of life, wonderful neighbors, architecture, and nature."

              -     Douglas Levere, Photographer, Douglas Levere Photo & University at Buffalo

"After living away from Buffalo at the start of my career, I came home in 2000 because I missed Buffalo!  The attractions, the people, the restaurants, the Bills, the Sabres, etc.  There's no place like home!"

              -    Melanie Gregg, Marketing Director, Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation

"My life works in Buffalo Niagara because my family enjoys the educational, recreational and cultural advantages of more populated areas with the feel of a small town in our neighborhoods and work environment., while experiencing a variety of the best weather of the four seasons anywhere in the US."

               -     Robert Zak, President & CEO, Merchants Insurance Group

"Buffalo offers so much to enjoy- from professional and recreation sports to all types of arts and cultural opportunities to beautiful and affordable neighborhoods.  I moved back from the Cincinnati area after attending graduate school and working there for a few years, and I'm so glad I did. I found a great career opportunity, rejoined the Cheektowaga Community Symphony, and have been enjoying the great people and atmosphere of Buffalo ever since!"

              -    Michele Brozek, Historic Preservation Specialist, Clinton Brown Company Architecture

"Having grown up on Long Island and lived in several places after grad school at Canisius (Los Angeles, Philadelphia, L.I.), I always hoped we'd end up back here.  And we did! We could never have been able to own a home (like the one we have)or enjoy the lifestyle we have here, if we had settled in any of those other areas. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to raise my 2 sons here in the Buffalo Niagara region."

              -    Patti Burns, Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, Erie I BOCES

"In Buffalo, my family and I are able to live, go to school and work within a 15 minute drive.  We can also go swimming, hiking and sledding within the same 15 minute drive.  We can afford to have a nice house with a great yard without spending every minute of our wakeful time working to pay for it.  Buffalo offers a quality life, and snow offers sledding and hot chocolate!"

             -    Kristin Machelor, Atty, Hamberger & Weiss

"The Buffalo Niagara region has always been home. My son is attending collage at Niagara University, my daughter attended Niagara and now lives in Buffalo with her Husband, a Buffalo boy, and works at ECMC. My oldest daughter who lived in Washington DC recently moved back to Buffalo and purchased a home off Allen Street.
I have a wholesale business which covers the entire north East and I have always found our Buffalo Niagara customers to be the best. The people are what make it great; good, friendly, honest people.  Then add all the attractions. The Bills. The Sabres and the great outdoors, you can't beat it."

             -    Bruce J Briggs, President, Summit Wholesale

"Quality of life here is unparalleled in many ways. Cost of living is very reasonable compared to other areas of the country. There is a variety of excellent schools, elementary through college. The commute time from anywhere you may reside in the area is minimal. The joke is on those who laugh at our weather. The National Weather Service stated that Buffalo had the nicest weather in the country this summer, and the natural beauty and the intrinsic activities of winter; snowmen, sledding, skiing, and skating, are equally enjoyable. Our winter is a part of the character and charm of this town. We don?t complain when it snows because we enjoy best of both weather worlds and always have another beautiful summer right around the corner."

             -    Randy Machelor, Supervisor, Senior Citizen Home Energy Assistance Program

"Living in Buffalo you get the best of both worlds- the excitemet of downtown and the small town values of the communities surrounding it."

             -    Caitlin DePriest, Registered Nurse, Erie County Medical Center

"Buffalo is a great city where you can enjoy all four seasons.  The cost of living is very low , and you don't have the hassle of driving in bumper to bumper traffic during your commute.  The people are great and it is a very tight knit community."

             -    Steven Przybyl, Senior Financial Analyst, Delaware North

"The reason Buffalo and all of Western New York is an exceptional place to live:  Affordability in all accounts!  Cost of living, affordable housing, education, cultural, quality if city and suburban living, the 4 seasons and you don't need to go far to find that there is always something to do!
Opportunities are a plenty...all you have to do is do it, develop it or build it and they will come!

"Lots of activities, from racing to snowmobiling. Niagara Falls is beautiful and the Sabres are awesome to watch."

            -     Danielle Esten, Customer Service, Summit Wholesale Inc.

"Like too many Western New Yorkers, I moved out of the area after college in search of better opportunities.  After 9 years in the Washington DC marketplace, I returned to Western New York.  Being away allowed me the opportunity to appreciate all that this area has to offer.  The combination of our beautiful seasons, cultural activities, sporting events, housing costs, recreational activities, education systems,  result in a diverse area perfect for raising a family.  However the unadvertised commodity is the people.  The hardworking, caring friends, neighbors and strangers that make up this area.  From the October Storm, to the block parties and numerous ethnic festivals, this area comes together, like no other I have seen.  Buffalo is a great place to live and a place I am proud to be from."

             -    John Lester, Sales Representative, Hearth & Home Technologies

?Born, Raised and decided to stay here in Buffalo. I truly have it all: family, great job, 4 seasons, skiing, golfing, short drive to work, great entertainment, great restaurants, so many great things. This is where I plan to stay.?

There are so many things you can find to do in the Buffalo Niagara area.  You can go to fairs, festivals, concerts, and the Seneca Niagara Casino."

             -      Sarah DePriest, Full Time Student/Med. Clerk, Windsong Radiology Group

"Buffalo Niagara works because of its sense of community. I admire the region's pride in its heritage, way of life and, of course passion for its sports teams. Buffalo Niagara offers a tremendous amount or arts, culture and entertainment options from water skiing in Lake Erie to enjoying the downtown Buffalo shops, restaurants and nightlife. Buffalo Niagara is an exciting place to live and I'm proud to call this area my home."

             -   J. P. Losman,  Buffalo Bills Quarterback

"After being transferred to Ohio 8 years ago, it's good to be home! There is no place like Western New York to work, play and raise a family. I have a to-do list that will take me into 2010.  Tops on my list are Artpark, Kissing Bridge, Letchworth, Kleinhan's, Shakespeare in the Park, a Sabres game, a Bills game, lunch at Ted's, dinner at Chef's, and ice cream at Anderson's. There aren't enough days in the year to do all the things this area has to offer!"

             -   Kim Grant,  Business Development Manager,  Applied Sciences Group, Inc.

"I was born and raised in WNY and would never leave to relocate!  We have great people, all nationalities, great food, sports, extremely affordable and quality housing and the change of season and greatest wonders of woods, water-fishing, boating, all water sports and the largest bird migration area of the lakes  plus Niagara Falls!   Colleges, hospitals, banks, etc.  Jobs are plentiful and diversified.  People are coming back to our home town and we welcome them to a great job force and all the towns and cities of good neighbors!"

             - Betty L. Harris, President/Real Estate Broker

"Buffalo has always meant home to me.  Growing up in the region provided so many incredible memories that I knew this is where I wanted to raise my children so they could experience the same. Moving back to the area to start a new business venture has been one of the best decisions ever.  I am surrounded by family & friends, terrific neighbors and the business community has been supportive and encouraging to me and my new company. What could be better than this?"

             - Heather Voss DeZak, Owner of SGO Designer Glass of WNY

"Working in the commercial real estate sector, I can honestly tell you that I have so many out of town clients that one is here in town almost every week looking at commercial real estate.  I feel like laughing when people say there is no opportunity here -from the weather (yes the weather), to the sports, culture, architecture, entertainment and on and on, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else.  We are on the nations radar screen more and more everyday, and as a life-long Buffalonian it is so gratifying, both personally and business-wise."

             - David Doerr, Hunt Commercial Real Estate Sales Agent

"I am originally from NYC.  Quality of life and friendships are what keeps me in the Buffalo Niagara region.  I have a higher quality of life here!  Good Schools, affordable housing, and access to other major cultural centers such as Toronto, Cleveland, and NYC allows me to raise my children in an area where they have all the benefits. Buffalo/Niagara is tuely a hidden gem."

             - Miguel Santos, Consumer Advocate in the Buffalo Niagara Region

"There are great opportunities in Buffalo. My family and I have lived here for the past 14 years. Because of the diversity of cultures we find here, we have developed an import export business, where we are in contact with many businesses around the world. Some of these contacts were provided by immigrants. Also, in times of hardship, communities pull together to help each other and this in itself is priceless."

             - Ana Church, President, Church's Import Export, Inc.

"Living in the Buffalo Niagara region works for me and my wife, Marie, by giving us opportunities to do so many things that we just couldn't do elsewhere.  We're avid boaters, skiers, and lovers of the theatre. And, we enjoy a wonderful house on Lake Erie.  In other cities, the costs for doing all of this would be prohibitive, but not here.  Our friends from out of town are amazed at how much we can experience and how much value for the dollar we get here in Buffalo Niagara."

             - Larry Cobado, Construction Manager, Verizon

-Sharon Robbins, Engineering manager for WNY, Verizon

"I spend more time outdoors in the winter here than I ever did in Virginia (It's true that three inches of snow can close schools and clear grocery shelves for days) and I don't have a perpetual supply of spaghetti-o's on hand just in case we lose power for a month or two after a big storm that wasn't even big enough to be named.  Buffalo should have an exchange program with people from elsewhere - many would never want to go back home."

          - Dana Jenkins, AVP, Organizational Improvement, Roswell Park Cancer Institute

"As president and CEO of a leading healthcare company, I know balance is vital to good health.  "I moved to Buffalo from Tuscon, Arizona 12 years ago. Most of the time when I tell people that they ask 'Why!?'  My standard answer to them is: where else can you be a days drive from so many major metropolitan locations like Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., Philly, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Toronto? Where else can you live 45 minutes away from one of the 7 wonders of the world, Niagara Falls, and, have such wonderful, friendly neighbors as I do, enjoy the four seasons and most importantly the color green!! You don's get green in the sun belt unless you pay for the water to make your oasis turn green. For me, the Buffalo Niagara region is where it's at!"

-Richard Jones, Senior E-commerce Business Anaylst, FedEx Trade Networks

"Last Night I left my home in Kenmore at 5 p.m. and was seated at my table at Ming Teh in Fort Erie, Ontario at 5:20 p.m. We had a wonderful meal with a view of the Niagara River with the Peace Bridge and Buffalo Skyline as a backdrop. Gourmet dinner (with leftovers!) and cocktails for 4 people with a 20% tip cost only $93!"

             - Kathleen Bates, Leadership Buffalo Class of '88

"Life in Buffalo is diverse and deep in tradition which gives us such a close community.  Buffalo has a lot to offer much like a large city but with a small town feel.  The climate adds to Buffalo Life at each part of the year.  Life is good in Buffalo."
