Microart, a company out of Markham, Ontario, manufactures circuit boards used in the aerospace, medical device and electronics industries. The company has a growth mindset, which has allowed the Canadian headquarters to grow to 279 employees and helped drive the need for a U.S. expansion. Acquiring a U.S. company was Microart’s preferred way to start their U.S. operations and they identified a company in Buffalo that was well suited to their operations and needs.

Worksport
Worksport is a publicly traded Canadian company that manufactures tonneau covers for trucks. The company was manufacturing their products overseas but was looking for a site in North America to onshore production. Worksport had a list of requirements they were searching for throughout the process including a suitable building preferably near their Canadian headquarters, access to cross border expertise, and government incentives to make the project possible.

CloudInsyte is a vendor marketplace that matches IT and security service providers with customers. The company was started in New York City by Buffalo native Joshua Ferry, who serves as the company’s CEO. Surmet Ceramics
Surmet is a Massachusetts-based advanced materials manufacturer with operations in Buffalo. The company produces high-tech transparent ceramic powders and coatings used in aerospace and defense applications. Surmet was investing in new technology and equipment in order to consolidate its forming and heat-treating capabilities into one location where it would produce transparent ceramic windows, lenses and armor. For this expansion of capabilities, space, and workforce, Surmet considered several options including Buffalo Niagara and at its headquarters in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Sucro Sourcing is a multinational company refining sugar for mills, processors, distributors and industrial customers. Before considering a permanent expansion in Buffalo Niagara, the company first set up a pilot project in the Gateway Trade Zone. At the completion of that pilot project, the company was satisfied and willing to further consider a permanent presence in Western New York. The company was also considering Miami, Florida for the project.

The investment will create 49 new jobs and further strengthen the region’s position in advanced manufacturing and semiconductor supply chain production. Professional Plastics, is a leading Supplier and Manufacturer of Plastic Sheet, Rod, Tube, Film and Fabricated Parts. Established in 1984, and fulfilling orders through 23 Locations in the USA, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia, the company employs 500 people worldwide including 110 employees here in WNY. With global semiconductor demand projected to double over the next five to six years, the company is positioning its Western New York operation to meet rising industry needs.Â
