In 2008, Invest Buffalo Niagara and Norampac representatives discussed the company’s desire to build a new facility that would construct new corrugated box products from recycled fibers. With 43 operating units throughout the world the company could have sited this project anywhere.

Worksport is a publicly traded Canadian company that manufactures tonneau covers for trucks. The company was manufacturing their products overseas but was looking for a site in North America to onshore production. Worksport had a list of requirements they were searching for throughout the process including a suitable building preferably near their Canadian headquarters, access to cross border expertise, and government incentives to make the project possible.

CloudInsyte
CloudInsyte is a vendor marketplace that matches IT and security service providers with customers. Their platform simplifies and accelerates the due-diligence process of analyzing service providers, saving time, money, and energy for the customer while streamlining the deal process for the provider. The company was started in New York City by Buffalo native Joshua Ferry, who serves as the company’s CEO. While living in NYC, Ferry kept his Buffalo Bills season tickets, traveling home to never miss a game from his beloved team. He often refers to the CloudInsyte team as the ‘InsyteMafia’ after Buffalo’s ‘Bills Mafia.’

Sparq (formally Rural Sourcing) provides outsourced software development services to build, deploy and optimize critical online applications. Plug Power is a fuel cell company that is “reimagining the energy ecosystem.” The company is building an end-to-end hydrogen power ecosystem including hydrogen production, storage, and delivery with the goal of assisting in the clean energy transfer and decarbonizing the modern economy. Plug Power’s fuel cells will enable the adoption of zero-emission freight transport and logistics handling equipment. The company already had operations in the Albany, NY area and was looking to expand its production capabilities further.

Microart, a company out of Markham, Ontario, manufactures circuit boards used in the aerospace, medical device and electronics industries. The company has a growth mindset, which has allowed the Canadian headquarters to grow to 279 employees and helped drive the need for a U.S. expansion. Acquiring a U.S. company was Microart’s preferred way to start their U.S. operations and they identified a company in Buffalo that was well suited to their operations and needs.
